Wayne N. Kitts, 89, of Kokomo, passed away at 12:30 A.M. on January 26, 2012 at North Woods Village, Kokomo. He was born in Kokomo, on December 7, 1922 to the late Mace and Wilma (Sharp) Kitts. Wayne attended Kokomo High School and graduated in 1941 before taking a job with the Stellite Corporation, Kokomo. He quit his job with Stellite when he joined the Army in January of 1943. He fought during WWII and received several honors including; European Theater ribbon, four Bronze Stars, the Bronze Arrowhead, French Croix de Guerre, Presidential Unit Citation, the Bronze Star Merit Service Award, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal, along with a cigar from Winston Churchill when he transported him across the Urb River in Germany using an amphibious vehicle. When Wayne returned from the Army in October of 1945, he began working at Delco Electronics where he worked as a repairman until he retired on August 1, 1983.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1152, American Legion Post 6, Eagles Lodge 255 and also the UAW Local 292. Wayne enjoyed bowling, and bowled on 7 different leagues every week. He was inducted into the Kokomo Bowling Association's Hall of Fame. Wayne also enjoyed playing baseball, and played with the Kokomo Boosters and the Delco League.

Wayne is survived by his children, Janis Kitts, Indianapolis, IN, Sandy Torres, Malaga, Spain, Jon (Vickie) Kitts, Kokomo, IN and Steve (Stephanie) Kitts, Kokomo, IN; grandchildren, Jay Kitts, Veronica Torres, Diego Torres and Clay Kitts; a great grandchild, Jayten Kitts and a great granddaughter on the way. Other survivors include a step grandchild, Chouncey Heutra; his ex-wife, Beverly Kitts; and a niece and a nephew.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his two daughters, Betty Boll; a son, Tomas Kitts; a sister, Maxine Wright; and a nephew, Travis Wright.

There will be a funeral service for Wayne held at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 South Main Street, Kokomo on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 1:00 P.M with Pastor Chris Neff officiating. Following the service, we will be taking Wayne to his final resting place in Albright Cemetery, Kokomo, where the local VFW and the U.S. Army military rites teams will provide burial rites. Wayne's family and friends are welcome to join for a time of visitation on Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. also at the Main Street Chapel.
