Michael Ray Kennedy, 56, of Kokomo, passed away at 12:01 A.M. on Sunday, January 15, 2012, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehab, Kokomo. He was born October 30, 1955 at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo, IN to the late Raymond Lewis and Dorthea Eva (Perry) Kennedy. Michael began working on cars very early in his childhood at his father's service and filling stations; Rays Union 76. He worked there until he graduated from Northwestern High School in 1974. After high school, he went to work fabricating magazines at Cuneo Press, Kokomo. A short while later, Michael began attending Indiana University in Bloomington where he became reacquainted with a high school friend, Nancy Beaver, and graduated in 1981 with a B.A. In 1982 both Michael and Nancy, each towing their own trailers, drove to California to settle and start their careers. For a time, Michael was a security guard at Hughes Aircraft before returning to what he loved, working on cars. He worked at Conoga Jeep, Conoga, California, where he had the opportunity to work on several movie stars' cars. On February 9, 1986 Michael and Nancy were married in a Disciples of Christ church and a short time later, started a family together. In 1993, Michael and Nancy decided to move their family back to their hometown of Kokomo, Indiana. Michael loved spending time with his family, and took them camping at the Indiana Dunes every year for their annual vacations. He always made the holidays special for his family; painting Easter eggs together, carving pumpkins, and selecting a live tree every year, to decorate together. Michael relished life and thoroughly enjoyed activities such as; fishing, camping, biking, wood working, tackling projects, family nights, and of course, working on cars. He will be deeply missed by friends and family.
Michael is survived by his children, Cassandra C. Kennedy, Kokomo and Troy M. Kennedy, Kokomo; a granddaughter, Adalae D. Kennedy, Kokomo; ex-wife, Nancy Beaver Kennedy; his siblings, Georgiann Patchett, Edwardsville, IL, Gary Patchett, Riverside, CA and Brenda (Patchett) Loveland, Riverside, CA, along with several nieces and nephews.
