Ernest Archer Jr., 83, of Bloomington and formerly of Kokomo, passed away at 7:45 AM, on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Monroe Hospital, Bloomington, IN. He was born on January 15, 1929 in Brazil, IN to the late Ernest Edgar and Mary Elizabeth (Byers) Archer. He attended Darrough Chapel Schools before working at General Electric, Kokomo. While at General Electric, Ernest met Mary Overman and they were married in Marion, IN on March 8, 1947, and she survives. During the Korean Conflict, Ernest was drafted and served a short time with the U.S. Army. He went on to work at B W Manufacturing in 1953, and worked there as Vice President of Manufacturing until he retired in1998. Ernest was an honorary Kentucky Colonel, and belonged to the Moose Lodge, Kokomo. He enjoyed golf, flea markets, bowling, fishing, working with his hands and collecting old cars.
Ernest is survived by his wife, Mary O. Archer; a daughter, Sharon K. (Mack) Darling, Spencer, IN; a son, Steven M. (Sue) Archer, Kokomo, IN; his grandchildren, Stephenie Jones, Nicole Landau, Meghan Collins, Sean Michael Landau, Morgan Lafey, Anthony Darling, Adrian Darling, Shane Darling and Branden Archer. Other survivors include 16 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and a brother, Ronald Lee (Lindy) Archer, Las Vegas, NV.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Edger, Chester, Russell and Richard Archer; and one grandson, Judge Ryan Archer.
There will be a funeral service for Ernest held at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 1:00 P.M with Pastor Tony Manis officiating. Following the service, we will be taking Ernest to his final resting place at Sunset Memory Garden Mausoleum, Kokomo, where the local VFW and the U.S. Army military rites teams will provide military rites. Ernest's family and friends are welcome to join for a time of visitation on Friday, February 3, 2012 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. also at the Webster Street Chapel.
